We would like to introduce Liz Bowen our natural Childbirth Educator at World of Enrichment! Liz is a certified Informed Beginnings Childbirth Educator.
Her journey to become a natural childbirth educator started when she became pregnant for the first time in 2006. She recalls, “I would never have thought about taking a childbirth course if it were not for a close friend who recommended the Bradley Method to me. She said ‘it’s worth the money and the time; you’ll be amazed at what you learn.’ So, I got my husband (boyfriend at the time) on board and we started the 12 -week journey into learning about natural childbirth. Much to our surprise we didn’t want the classes to end. We were learning so much and we kept thinking to ourselves ‘how do people have babies without this information?’. But most couples don’t know this information exists. We didn’t. After all, no one is teaching that this is an important step while being pregnant and welcoming a new life into this world. There is a lack of emphasis in our society on becoming prepared to have a baby other than a few prenatal visits, getting a nursery ready and picking out a name. We quickly realized that there was a lot more to it. We felt lucky that we were told about these classes and even luckier that we had such an awesome teacher. That teacher inspired me to become a teacher myself and help expectant couples learn all that they can so that they too could have the information they need to make the best choices for their baby.”
Liz is a mother of three healthy beautiful babies, all born using the information that she learned in her childbirth classes as well as her own research. All of her pregnancies, labor and deliveries were vastly different than the other. She says, “Even though they were all natural I still had some complications and interventions that we had to overcome. Some happened during pregnancy, some during labor and delivery and others during the postpartum experience. My teacher told us at the very first class, that ‘there are no guarantees in childbirth. The only thing you can guarantee is that it is not going to go the way you expect.’ Our childbirth classes prepared us for the unexpected.”
Liz’s Childbirth Education classes are extremely beneficial for all “Mommies-to-be”, not just first time mommies, not just for those that want a natural childbirth. You learn a lot about what your body is made to do and how best to help it. You will learn how the natural process works.
Her main goal is to educate couples on how to make intelligent, informed choices throughout their pregnancies, particularly during labor and delivery. By helping couples understand the importance of good nutrition, simple pregnancy exercises and relaxation techniques, she is able to help expectant mothers and unborn babies stay low-risk and healthy during pregnancy, labor, and delivery.
Her in-depth class covers the stages of labor and different “pathways” labor can take including variations and complications. The program also covers breastfeeding, postpartum and newborn care. Special attention is given to the role of the labor coach by giving partners the information necessary for them to fill the role and help facilitate a healthy, enjoyable birth experience aimed at reducing and minimizing pain during labor.
The best time to take the course is between the 5th, 6th and 7th month of your pregnancy.
